X-RAY: internal vs. external
UNTITLED, May 14th 2023
The handsiness of the patriarchy scratches through this piece. As the central feminine figure is being poked and prodded, we see their shadow-side standing tall and aiming a gun towards the right, suited "gentleman." As the figure and shadow stand in almost identical poses, we see how a slight shift in stance affects narrative. The texture of the background evokes struggle and movement, which seems to suggest: this is happening right now.

Beason describes this work as "sex and gender manipulation." Notice how the sexes pour in and out of each other—their transient yet continuous internal and external impact. The figures stand together as two, but Beason demonstrates their bodies to present a multi-faced collective. Beason described the relationship and wants the "collage portraits to flow into each other and also reference each other."
